Ultrasonic Flowmeter

Prosonic – Endress+Hauser Ultrasonic Flowmeter

With advanced ultrasonic measurement technology, Endress+Hauser proudly offers the Prosonic Flow ultrasonic flowmeter series featuring flexible designs in both clamp-on and inline configurations. These are suitable for pipe sizes ranging from small to very large (up to DN 4000 / 160”). This makes Prosonic Flow the optimal choice for industries such as oil and gas, chemicals, water treatment, energy, food & beverage, and many other industrial applications.

Measuring Principle of the Prosonic Ultrasonic Flowmeter

The ultrasonic flowmeter operates based on the differential transit time method.

    • The system utilizes two ultrasonic sensors installed opposite each other within the measuring pipe.
    • These sensors alternately transmit and receive ultrasonic signals.
    • When the fluid in the pipe begins to flow, the ultrasonic waves travel faster in the direction of the flow and slower against the flow.
    • The difference in transit time measured between the two sensors serves as the basis for calculating the flow velocity, thereby accurately determining the flow rate.

Thanks to this principle, the ultrasonic flowmeter can operate stably with various types of homogeneous fluids without direct contact or causing pressure drop in the flow.

 Advantages of Prosonic Flowmeter

    1. Flexible measurement: Operates reliably without dependence on pressure, electrical conductivity, or viscosity.
    2. Easy installation and maintenance: The clamp-on design allows installation without pipe cutting, making it suitable for high-pressure applications or corrosive media. The inline design is intended for fixed, high-precision measurements.
    3. No pressure loss: Completely free flow without obstruction.
    4. High durability: No wear or corrosion, suitable for harsh media.
    5. Wide measurement range: Suitable for pipe sizes from small to very large (DN 4000/160”).

 Applications of Prosonic Flowmeter

The Prosonic ultrasonic flowmeter is widely used across various industrial sectors, ranging from temporary monitoring to permanent measurement applications:

    • Oil & gas and chemical industries: Measurement of volatile liquids, natural gas, industrial gases, and various chemicals, …
    • Water and wastewater treatment: Measurement of clean water, wastewater, dilute sludge, and biogas, …
    • Food and beverage industry: Measurement of water and various liquid flows in production processes.
    • Energy sector: Monitoring of cooling water, condensate steam, and heat transfer oils.
    • Mobile or retrofit applications: The clamp-on design enables quick on-site measurements, inspection, and verification of existing installed equipment.
