Vibronic Point Level Detection
Liquiphant & Soliphant – Endress+Hauser Vibronic Point Level Detection
Vibronic point level detection is a safe and reliable solution for detecting limit level (min/max) and preventing overflow of liquids and solids in most industrial applications.
Devices like Liquiphant (for liquids) and Soliphant (for solids) from Endress+Hauser are widely used due to their stable operation, unaffected by changes in medium properties, foam, vibration, or buildup.
The system is considered the “second line of defense” in many critical processes, ensuring the highest level of safety and operational readiness for the plant.
Measuring Principle of Vibronic Point Level Detection
Vibrating fork level switches operate based on the mechanical resonance phenomenon of the probe (vibrating fork). Thanks to this mechanism, the device does not depend on the dielectric constant, electrical conductivity, or viscosity of the medium, enabling stable measurement under various conditions.
1. Measuring Principle of tuning fork level detection for liquids
For liquids: The tuning fork sensor is excited to oscillate at its natural resonant frequency by a piezoelectric actuator. When the probe comes into contact with the liquid, the oscillation frequency changes, and this change is analyzed to generate a level detection signal.
2. Measuring Principle of tuning fork level detection for solids
For solids (powders, granules): The vibrating rod sensor operates similarly. When the material covers the vibrating rod, the vibration amplitude decreases, which is detected by the processor to send an ON/OFF signal to the control system.
Advantages of Vibronic Point Level Detection
-
- Reliable measurement, unaffected by the medium: Operates stably in environments with foam, vibration, or high viscosity.
- Easy installation: No complex calibration required – quick setup and ready to use immediately after installation.
- Self-monitoring & low maintenance: Integrated self-check function to monitor operational status, eliminating the need for regular maintenance.
- High safety (SIL 2/3): Suitable for overflow prevention, leak detection, or equipment protection applications in processes requiring strict safety standards.
- Flexible applications: A wide product range suitable for liquids, powders, granules, and bulk materials.
Applications of Vibronic Point Level Detection
Vibrating fork level switches are widely used in various industrial fields:
-
- Oil & gas, chemical industry: Level detection in storage tanks, reactors, pipelines, or hazardous areas.
- Food & beverage industry: Level monitoring in raw material tanks, powder silos, finished product tanks, and CIP chemical tanks, …
- Water & wastewater treatment industry: High/low level detection in storage tanks, overflow monitoring.
- Materials & cement industry: Level detection in silos containing powder, granules, or bulk materials.
With a durable, precise, and safe design, vibrating fork level switches are the ideal choice for point level detection applications in both liquid and solid environments. Endress+Hauser’s Liquiphant and Soliphant solutions deliver stable operation, reduced maintenance costs, and enhanced process safety for plants.
